Thinking about applying to graduate school?

If so, chances are you will need to sit for the GRE, the GMAT or the LSAT. For the high scores you need, help is right here on ASU's campus.

testprep@asu is a program of ASU’s Testing Support Services. At a cost much lower than off-campus alternatives, testprep@asu courses will increase your math and verbal competence, teach powerful test-taking strategies, and reinforce them through in-class exercises and homework.

High scores on your graduate entrance exams are critical in determining your options for graduate school. A better score can win you a seat in the graduate school of your choice, while poor test scores may close doors to you. Strong scores may even be considered in determining eligibility for scholarships, grants, and other forms of financial assistance.

Our Instructors

James Alan: GMAT, GRE (Verbal)

Mr. Alan holds a B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. He is also the author of four books in the field of English as a second language: English for Business Travel (2003), English for Business Meetings (2003), English for Business Calls (2003), and English for Business Presentations (2004).

Jake Bell: GMAT, GRE (Verbal)

Mr. Bell earned his B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from the Cronkite School at Arizona State University and is in his final semester of the MBA program at ASU's W. P. Carey School. He spent five years as a writer and reporter for various NBC affiliates in Arizona and Florida, earning seven Associated Press and Emmy awards for his writing. Currently, Jake runs his own media consulting company. He scored in the 96th percentile on the verbal portion of the GMAT.

Amanda V. Brown: GMAT, GRE (Math and Verbal)

Ms. Brown graduated from Drew University in 2004 summa cum laude with a Bachelors degree in Music and English. She achieved specialized honors status for her undergraduate degree through the completion and defense of a thesis on flute playing in the nineteenth century, and was initiated into Phi Beta Kappa in 2004. She is currently enrolled in the Music History and Literature M.A. program at Arizona State University. She scored an 800 on the quantitative portion and scored in the 99th percentile on the verbal portion of the GRE.

Her teaching experience includes tutoring of students in various subjects, including Mathematics, Spanish, English as a Second Language, and flute. She places a high value on education and considers teaching one of the world’s most fulfilling professions.

Stephanie Lenox: GRE (Verbal)

Ms. Lenox earned her B.A. in English Literature and Writing with honors from Whitworth College and her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Idaho. She worked for several years as a Writing Center consultant for undergraduates and graduates.  She served with Literacy AmeriCorps as both program coordinator and instructor for Talk Time, an ESL program in the Seattle Public Library System. At the University of Idaho, she served as the student representative on her department’s graduate admissions council.

Her teaching experience includes three years of freshman English composition. Additionally, she taught a university-level poetry writing class and lead creative writing workshops at the elementary and high-school levels. She attributes her expertise in vocabulary, reading comprehension, and analogies to her background in creative writing and her love of reading. Currently, she works as the Office Manager for Testing Support Services and as an instructional specialist for the GRE. She scored in the 98th percentile on the verbal portion of the GRE.

Alisa McKnight: LSAT

Ms. McKnight holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan with a specialization in Medieval and Renaissance studies, a M.A. in the history of art from the University of Chicago with a specialization in Medieval and Byzantine Art, a law degree from the University of Colorado where she concentrated on western states issues including natural resources, water, and Federal Indian law, and has an L.L.M. in progress at the University of British Columbia in the 20th century legal history of the Skeena River Gitksan peoples and the Canadian government.

She scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT, GRE, and LSAT, as well as taught for Kaplan and held several positions as a tutor for at-risk students throughout her academic career. She loves teaching and genuinely desires to help students achieve their highest potential.

John Carter McKnight: LSAT

Mr. McKnight is the Program Development Coordinator and Instructional Specialist Coordinator for Testing Support Services and Career Testing Services at ASU.  He has taught LSAT courses for ASU for over two years.

For over ten years, he practiced corporate finance law in New York and California, specializing in high-technology Initial Public Offerings.  He has been an officer or director of several nonprofit corporations active in science education and policy advocacy, taught GRE and SAT preparatory courses for Kaplan, Inc., served as editor of several business publications, worked as a freelance writer and consultant on space exploration topics, and was CEO of an engineering design firm.

He holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law, a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University and a B.A. (honors) in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.  He scored in the 99th percentile on the LSAT and on the GRE’s Verbal and Analytical sections.

Meerabelle Dey Montell: LSAT

Ms. Montell holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto in History and Religious Studies.  She received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law where she was an editor on the Moot Court Board and a quarterfinalist in the National Tax Moot Court Competition.  She served as a law clerk for the Honorable David E.Crabtree of the New Jersey State Tax Court and was an international tax consultant for Deloitte & Touche LLP for many years.  In addition, she has edited several legal review books.  Ms. Montell also spent a number of years as a prosecutor in the New York City Family Court system.  She scored in the 99th percentile rank on the LSAT and has passed the New York, New Jersey and Arizona bar examinations.

Aaron J. Moskowitz: LSAT

Mr. Moskowitz works for the Arizona Attorney General's Office as an Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Appeals Section. He served as a Temporary Law Clerk under Chief Judge Stephen M. McNamee at the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, a litigation associate at a law firm in Northern Arizona, and a Legal Research Attorney in San Jose, California at the Santa Clara County Superior Court. He has lectured on Constitutional Law, Federal Habeas Corpus, and appellate advocacy at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, Arizona State University, and at the 2005 Habeas Training Seminar of the Association of Government Attorneys in Capital Litigation. He has also taught Critical Thinking to paralegal students at Long Technical College.

Amanda Owens: GRE (Verbal)

Ms. Owens graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in English Literature from Arizona State University.  She was among only 1% of college juniors inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor’s Society.  Currently, she is a second-year graduate student at ASU, working on her Master’s Degree in Children’s Literature.  She is a skilled writer and editor and works as a technical editor in the field of Construction and Engineering.  In 2002, she placed in the top 10 in the Nationwide Prentice-Hall/ New Yorker Short Story Competition. 

Her teaching experience includes assisting in an adult GED preparation course within the Arizona community, as well as volunteer work abroad. In the fall of 2001, she taught conversational English and grammar in South Central Russia.  Ms. Owens scored in the 95th percentile on the verbal portion of the GRE.

Stefanie Peppard: LSAT


Ms. Peppard holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan in 2004 with concentrations in Political Science and Spanish.  She is currently a second-year law student at the Arizona State University College of Law, where she is focusing on land use and real estate law.  She scored in the 95th percentile on the LSAT. 

As a recent applicant, she is also able to provide insight to prospective students about both the process of applying to law schools, as well as the law school environment and what to expect from the first year of law school. 

Jean-Claude Volgo: GMAT, GRE (Math)


Mr. Volgo has been teaching the math preparation classes for GRE and GMAT at ASU for the last two years.  He also teaches math preparation classes for SAT at Tempe Preparatory Academy, an exclusive charter school.  He received his B.A. with honors in Philosophy from McGill University (Montreal, 1969), and his M.A. in Philosophy from Washington University   (St. Louis, 1972).  Since 1972, he has taught logic and philosophy at various community colleges and universities, including ASU.  His teaching experience includes several years of exposure to high-school math as a substitute teacher throughout the greater Phoenix area.

Registration

Class size is strictly limited. Courses fill quickly, so early registration is recommended. You should register at least two weeks before you wish to begin. No further registrations will be accepted once the courses have begun.

In keeping with ASU Cashiering Services regulations, we accept personal checks with proper identification, cashier's checks, or money orders made out to ASU. We also accept credit cards (VISA and Master Card only). If you are an ASU student, you can pay by billing your student account. We do not accept cash.
